Smart Ways to Reuse Wine Corks Around Your Home
Dated: July 4 2020
You might think twice about tossing out the corks of your empty wine bottles after you see these clever ways to reuse them around the house. Check them out.
Holding the Cards
Create an easy place card holder for your next gathering. Simply cut a thin slice off one side of a wine cork, which will create a flat surface to stabilize your cork so that it won’t roll. Next, cut a thin slit on the opposite side of the cork, maybe about ¼-inch deep, where you will insert your card. That’s it, your card holder is complete. Cork card holders can be perfect for carrying out the theme of a wine tasting party, where guests can pick up a tasting card that contains details about a wine, including the type, the vineyard it came from, the year it was bottled, and a description.
It’s easy to protect your wood floors from scuffs and scratches by creating floor protectors from corks. Slice a wine cork horizontally into ¼-inch-thick spheres and use glue dots to adhere them to the bottoms of the legs of your chairs and tables. It’s quick and easy. Making your own floor protectors not only saves your floors, but it can save you money.
This one is pretty cool. If you own stud earrings you know just how easy they are to lose, especially when you travel. Trying to find a stray stud can be like looking for a needle in a haystack, but it’s nothing that a good wine cork can’t handle. Keep your studs secure by removing their backs and sticking them into a wine cork the same way you would push pins. It’s a technique that can save you the hassle and the headache of searching for an earring that has somehow fallen through the cracks.
FYI: You don’t have to be a wine drinker to benefit from these cork hacks. You can order recycled corks in bulk online.
