Seal the Deal with Curb Appeal
Dated: December 12 2019
Curb appeal is your first opportunity to show buyers that your home is the total package. A well-maintained landscape and home exterior are harbingers for what buyers can expect once they cross your front door.
When choosing plants to include in your SoCal landscape consider ones that are drought tolerant. Drought-tolerant plants are more likely to endure hot, dry conditions, and are usually native to the region. Landscapes that are drought-tolerant can be a great selling feature since they typically require less maintenance and irrigation.
A drought-tolerant landscape doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice color and variety in your yard. These blooming beauties can thrive in SoCal’s hot, dry, and sunny weather:
Lily of the Nile: a trumpet-shaped bloom that usually appears in late summer.
Santa Barbara daisy: a blossom that has a golden center with petals that start out white and gradually turn pink or purple. It’s a non-maintenance plant that thrives in sun or shade and grows to a height and width of three feet.
California fuchsia: this perennial thrives on full sun and dry soil and yields vivid orange or red blooms during the summer.
Toyon: otherwise known as “California Holly,” or “Christmas Berry,” this plant has tiny flowers that appear in early summer and attract butterflies. In the winter the flowers change to berry-like fruit that attracts hummingbirds, robins, and other birds. The neighborhood of Hollywood was actually named after this perennial shrub because of its abundance on the hills of Los Angeles.
Desert mallow: this evergreen has cupped flowers in shades of orange and red. It grows on dry soil with full sun, and can reach two to three feet tall and two feet wide.
Your Home’s Exterior
Power washing can be an easy and relatively inexpensive way to freshen-up your home’s exterior. Siding and concrete and brick pavers that have become weathered with green algae or mold, as well as stained driveways and sidewalks, can benefit from a good power wash.
A new coat of paint or stain can turn back the clock on aged surfaces like trim, or decking.
Also, be sure to remove leaves and other debris that may be clogging your gutters and creating an unsightly distraction.
