When downsizing from a large home to a smaller one all of your furniture and appliances may not fit within your new space, so you’ve got to make adjustments. Consider these tips on how to
6 Awesome Hacks for Hanging Wall Art
How you hang art in your home is influenced by where you place it, and the dimensions of your pieces. Consider these six tips.
Entryways and Hallways
More likely than not, in entryways and hallways you and your guests will be in a standing position. In these instances art should be hung so that its center is at eye-level—between 60 to 65 inches from the floor, on average. In entries and hallways with tall ceilings hang your art just a few inches higher.
Rooms with Seating
In spaces like living rooms, dining rooms, and offices—where you’ll be in a seated position—pictures and artwork should be placed lower on the wall, since eye-level will be lower than when in a standing position. While seated, have someone hold your art against the wall until you find an ideal viewing level.
Groupings of Art or Photos
When hanging a grouping of art or photos, consider the grouping as one large piece. With that in mind, arrange the bottom of the grouping in relationship to the furniture beneath it.
When hanging vertical art arrange it so that the top third of the picture is near eye level. The height of the art will ultimately dictate the ideal placement. Have someone lower and raise the art to find the perfect position.
Hanging a small photo on a large wall can look disproportionate. Instead, hang small pictures on narrow walls, like the spaces between two doorways and windows. Try hanging two or three pictures in a vertical line, using the center picture as the center of the grouping.
Use a Template
One quick and effective hack for hanging art and photos is to use templates. For each piece of artwork cut a paper template to size. Using painter’s tape attach the template(s) to the wall. Now you’ll have a chance to see how your art will look without needing a second pair of hands to hold it to the wall. This is perfect for groupings of art, since you can manipulate the arrangement to see how different configurations will look on the wall before you hang your pieces.
