4 Ways to Help Prevent Salt Water Damage to Your Home
There’s nothing like living by the ocean. Peaceful walks along the beach, the soothing sound of crashing waves, evenings of picturesque sunsets, and the refreshing ocean air can all contribute to a less-stressed, laid-back way of living that most people dream of.
While living by the sea can have a positive effect on your life, the salt water air can sometimes have a corrosive effect on certain aspects of your home. Here are ways to safeguard those areas.
Service Your HVAC Regularly
A local HVAC professional can make sure that any metal components that start to collect salt are cleaned, and that the system is drawing air from a properly ventilated area.
Power Wash Periodically
From time to time give the outside of your home a power wash. This helps keep your siding, doors, and windows free of as much salt as possible, which can reduce exterior wear and tear. You may opt to invest in a power washer, or have your home professionally serviced.
Shield Electronics From Overexposure
If you have a room that contains lots of electronics, such as a home office, keep windows in this space closed on especially foggy and humid days to avoid salty humidity. If you want to open your windows you can use a dehumidifier to reduce moisture in the air.
Reel-In Your Grill and Summer Gear
Lounging on your deck and grilling out are great ways to spend your weekends, especially during the summer months. When you aren’t using your grill, or other metal outdoor recreational gear, it’s best to shield it with a protective cover, or bring it in out of the elements, to help prevent salt water erosion. If you don’t have a protective cover just place your grill in your garage or basement. And be sure to periodically hose it down with fresh water.
