4 Home Furnishings You Need, According to Designers
Furnishing your home is a balance between utility and beauty, function and fun. Furniture that has longevity offers the best of both worlds. This month news outlet Insider.com talked to two interior designers to get suggestions for pieces that strike this balance—items the designers feel you need. We break down their responses here.

Round Metallic Poufs

Poufs add movable seating to any space and you can find them in various sizes and upholstered in a variety of fabrics. If you’re planning to add a pouf to your living room, game room, or wherever you need extra seating, interior designer Michelle Harrison-McAllister of California-based Michelle Harrison Design suggests you consider using colors like metallic gold, silver, and bronze for playful but functional pieces.

Woven Ottoman

You can never have enough storage, especially when it’s a stylish woven ottoman. You can use these containers to house things like magazines, blankets for a cozy cuddle on the couch, or to store bedding next to a sleeper sofa. A stylish woven ottoman can also be used to store the kids’ toys to keep clutter under control. Principal interior decorator Elaine Burns of Pistachio Design in New York told Insider.com, “I’m always on the hunt for multipurpose, beautiful storage pieces.”

Writing Desk and Ergonomic Leather Chair

With more people working from home and home offices becoming more of a necessity than a convenience, it’s important to have office furnishings that meet your needs. Having a proper writing desk can be key to your productivity. Elaine Burns suggests you pair it with an ergonomic desk chair for comfort—in a leather finish, for durability and style.

Dining Table With a Tulip Base

For a kitchen or dining area a dining table with a tulip base can add a sense of modernism, says Harrison-McAllister. The table’s elegant silhouette and clean lines will stand the test of time.
