If you’re like most Vero Beach home-sellers, you want to know if there’s anything in your house that could prevent buyers from taking the leap – and you might be surprised at what turns off buyers.

Check out these three things that can prevent anyone from making an offer.

3 Things That Can Stop Your Home From Selling

Three common issues that can stop your home from selling are:

  • Bad carpet
  • Pet evidence
  • Nosy neighbors

Let’s take a closer look at each issue – and then we’ll tell you what to do about it.

#1. Bad Carpet

If your carpet is old, dated, or in poor condition, it’s got to go. There’s no way around it – buyers don’t want carpet that they can’t live with. It may be best to remove your carpet and replace it with hardwood, laminate or tile. Remember, though, you should talk to your real estate agent before you make any major investments on upgrades or renovations. Your carpet might be fine (but it pays to check with your real estate agent).

#2. Pet Evidence

Even the biggest animal-lovers don’t want to walk into a home that smells like pets or that has pet toys strewn all over the floor. Clear out as much evidence of your pets as you can, and if you have the ability to do so, think about sending your pets to stay with grandma (or anyone else you trust) for the time period that your house is on the market.

#3. Nosy Neighbors

Nosy neighbors are tough, because it’s not really your fault that they’re nosy. However, if the house doesn’t seem to have much privacy (or if your neighbors really are nosy), you can make it better by installing a fence (or increasing your fence size), planting trees or adding bushes around the windows.
