3 Cheap Hacks for a Clean and Fresh Home

Keeping a clean house doesn’t always mean spending money on pricey cleaners and using up tons of your free time. Here are three cheap hacks to get the job done.

Snuff-out Sink Stink

It happens to everyone. Your kitchen sink begins to reek, thanks to a dirty garbage disposal. Although there is no shortage of special liquids and cleaning pods that you can drop down the drain, you can stop the stink in its tracks using items right from your pantry. If you’ve got white vinegar and lemons, you’re in business.

Slice a lemon into small pieces (perhaps very thin wedges or triangles) and place each piece in an ice tray. Fill each section of the tray with white vinegar and allow it to freeze overnight. Remove the cubes from the tray and store them in a plastic zipper bag.

When your sink begins its nasal assault, drop a couple of cubes down the drain and turn on the garbage disposal. The ice will dislodge stuck on grease and goo from the grinding elements, the vinegar will disinfect, and the lemon slices will leave behind a fresh scent. If you want, you can substitute the lemon with an orange.

Cleanse Your Coffee Maker

Your single-serve coffee maker could be serving up more than just coffee. If it’s not cleaned properly the water tank can become a nursery for mold and bacteria. So periodically run vinegar through your coffee maker to get rid of any build-up inside, and enjoy your mugs of mud with peace of mind.

Maintain Your Mattress

You wash your sheets, but you can actually clean your mattress, too. First, using the upholstery attachment on your vacuum cleaner, vacuum the entire surface. Next, sprinkle baking soda on your mattress, allow it to sit for 30 minutes, then vacuum it up for a pleasant night’s sleep.
