2 MORE Ways to Customize Your Builder-Grade Home

You’ve lived in your new-construction home for a while now, and now that you know you can comfortably manage your mortgage along with your other monthly expenses you're ready to upgrade some of its builder-grade features. Consider some of these enhancements to take your home to the next level.

Powering-Up Your Powder Room

When it comes to décor, powder rooms can sometimes be treated like pit stops that don’t get much love. But, aside from your entryway, it’s the one space in the house that’s most likely to be visited by your guests. So be sure not to overlook it when upgrading your spaces.

You can go all-out with bold designs in powder rooms. Consider installing a customized sink accompanied by a unique light bar overhead. You might also upgrade a standard frameless wall mirror with a framed one. When it comes to the walls you could repaint using a splashy or moody color, or cover the walls with a patterned or textured wallpaper.

Leveling-Up Your Landscaping

It’s very likely that your home’s builder landscaped the front yard with the same shrubs and trees as everyone else on the block, so this is a great opportunity to change things up so your yard can stand out.

To give your landscape rich color during the fall season consider planting a quaking aspen tree (also called the golden aspen and white poplar), whose leaves burst with golden-yellow splendor. During the warmer months the tree has glossy green leaves that contrast against its white, narrow trunk. A quaking aspen can grow as tall as 82 feet, so plant it accordingly.

For year-round greenery consider a Colorado blue spruce. In the fall it drops pine cones, which you can use for Christmas decor if you wish. You may also consider planting a Douglas fir. (If your neighborhood is governed by an HOA these trees may require approval).
